BHF Dorset Bike Ride 2010

The annual BHF bike ride in Wimborne on Sunday 25th April 2010 is one of the most popular charity cycle rides in the UK. The Dorset Cycling Development Group (DCDG) are responsible for providing the marshals, course signage and event service. For the first time the WXCRL will award 5 WXCRL points to any member who marshals this event.

Why are we doing this? The DCDG have just awarded the WXCRL their biggest ever grant towards a transponder timing system. We want to help the DCDG get enough marshals.

Who are the DCDG? The DCDG are a small body of Dorset cycling club representatives who help organise the BHF ride every year and award small grants for cycling activities within Dorset. The DCDG have already helped riders such as Dan Lloyd and Darren Kenny OBE, the proposed new outdoor track in Bournemouth, multiple coaches and basic cycle event essentials over many years.

Why should I help marshal this event? Well, by volunteering a few hours (not all day, most marshalling points only require a few hours) this Sunday you'll be contributing to the future success of your league and cycling development in Dorset. Without the DCDG it's quite possible our quest for a transponder timing system would remain a dream.

I want to help, what shall I do next? Email Gerrish Gray (01202 849144 / 07852167475) or myself (01202 888858) so you can be allocated a spot. Oh, not only could you be contributing towards your transponder you'll get free food and drink delivered to you on route, what a deal!

WXCRL Transponder Update

We've taken a big step towards our very own electronical timing system. Just recently the WXCRL has been awarded a substantial grant from the DCDG (see above).

We're not entirely there yet, but I just wanted you all to know we're now well our way. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who completed our Online Transponder Survey last year because this will help me in our quest for more cash!

What could all this mean for me and my club/team if the league is successful in purchasing a system? For all riders participating in WXCRL events it means instantaneous accurate timings and results, plus more (but that's for another day). For any affiliated club or team it means your WXCRL event will be using the system for free as part of the affiliation.

WXCRL 2010 Points Table so far...

Steve Dring - Team Echelon/SpiukSteve Dring - Team Echelon - Spiuk leads the 2010 standings from Andy Bryson and Stu Bowers - Hargroves Cycles after 4 events.

Dring picked up an extra 10 WXCRL points by providing 2 marshals for the Martyrs RR. As we all know without marshals there can be no races, that's why we give points for marshaling. Get yourself 5 extra WXCRL points if you marshal or can provide a marshal or driver at any WXCRL promoted event. Like the idea of 5 extra points why not organise an event and bag 30!
